One could stay in Chiang Mai for weeks, even months, and still not see all the sights the city has to offer or take part in all the activities the northern Thai hills hold. Weekends in particular are excellent for exploring and there are many common ways Thai friends and families like to enjoy their time off. Heading out on a mini road trip, going for a dip, picnicking in the park and discovering some of the region’s natural wonders are great any time but especially popular outings on the weekend. As with just about everything in Thailand, most everything also centers around eating and snacking – you’ll find food and drink stalls at most of the places listed below so if you don’t bring your daily rations with you, don’t worry! One of the greatest ways to spend an afternoon in Chiang Mai is slowly eating and drinking your way through the day amongst friends and some spectacular scenery. To beat the crowds start your outing in the morning when people haven’t quite gotten out the door yet and the sun isn’t too strong. Now, grab a snack and some sunscreen and get ready for an adventure!
