In this age of super-fast schedules, almost everyone is a part of some race, racing against time to reach their destination or meet their deadline. Airports are busy with people running to catch their flight and once you board one, you are greeted with cramped seats and very little overhead bin space (if you are not flying super-expensive!).
While that might sound like a dream, some travellers do turn lucky. People who have been lucky enough to travel all alone in a plane. Check out their stories, and turn green with envy.
Alex Simon
Zhang
She rang in the New Year with a bang. She was one lucky traveller in China, who travelled all alone to Guangzhou in a plane for the New Year holiday. Ms. Zhang was also among the millions rushing home for the holiday. It so happened that the mass exodus resulted in travel chaos, with thousands of people stranded at Guangzhou. She took a risk and instead of booking a train ticket, opted for a flight ticket. The gamble took her on a roll. All those who were scheduled for the same flight, switched for an earlier one owing to chronic delays, thereby making her the sole passenger on her scheduled flight. She enjoyed special services from the air hostesses and a pilot also paid a visit to her!
Karon Grieve
The Scottish author was heading to Crete, Greece, from the Glasgow Airport and booked flight tickets for 46 pounds. When Karon Grieve reached the airport, she was informed that only three people booked that end-of-season flight, including herself. As luck will have it, the other two passengers did not turn up making her the lone passenger in the entire flight. She received a five-star experience and free meals as she was the only one on that plane. She even had the privilege of avoiding the long queue after landing in Crete as she got her suitcase right after getting off the plane!
Chris O’Leary
This man has a funny story to tell. He boarded a long-delayed Delta Airlines flight, scheduled to fly from Cleveland to New York. To his surprise, he found that all his fellow passengers have been rebooked on other flights. Bad weather was the reason behind this rare situation, which even caused many flight delays. Chris O’Leary’s flight got delayed for six hours and he was missed out on the rebooking. So it turned out that he was the only one travelling all alone with rows and rows of empty seats around. He chortled at the absurdity of his rare situation, but mentioned that it was one of the memorable moments of his life.
Nigel Short
This man had the ultimate solo travel experience. He boarded an Air Zimbabwe flight, only to find himself the only passenger there. Nigel Short was asked not to be late for boarding during the check-in as the flight would be carrying only four passengers. However, to his surprise, when he reached the gate, he was told that he was the only one travelling. He said, “I was served by two ladies and all the announcements were directed to me”.
