Situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad, this Sufi shrine (dargah) is perched on the top of a rocky hill. The dargah is believed to house an imprint of Ali, Prophet Muhammad’s son-in-law. According to local belief, one of the 16th-century sultan Ibrahim’s Quli Qutub Shah’s courtiers Yakoob dreamt of the imprint of Ali’s palm and then discovered a similar imprint in one of the rocks in the area. Soon after, a shrine was built around the rock. Visitors have to climb around 500 steps to reach the top, where they are greeted by breathtaking views of the city as well as the surrounding countryside. The dargah only allows entry during the Moula Ali urs festival during Muharram, when it is visited by countless devotees. Thanks to its rocky terrain, the area is also immensely popular with trekkers.
