Vienna, the capital of Austria and one of the most elegant cities in Europe, is a must-visit any time of the year. For the whole of 2015, the city is gearing itself up to celebrate several anniversaries and events. Its iconic Ringstrasse completes 150 years; Emperor Franz Joseph’s architectural gem was thrown open in 1865 and showcases some of Vienna’s finest public buildings. The Spanish Riding School celebrates 450 years, and the city also plays host to the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Apart from art and architecture, the city offers many unique experiences, such as its famed coffeehouse culture, magical Christmas markets and vineyard hopping in the city itself. Ride a giant Ferris wheel or go cycling in the woods–Green Vienna beckons one and all. If you’re planning on visiting many of the ticketed attractions, I’d recommend you get the Vienna Card, which will give you discounted entry into museums, sights and theatres, plus discounts at cafes, restaurants and shops, as well as free travel on the city’s public transport system.
