A guided stroll through Delhi’s heritage
INTACH - a non-profit organisation that protects India's natural and cultural heritage - offers several regular guided heritage walks. The volunteer guides who lead the excursions are expert historians and conversationalists so you will be in good hands.
For a broad sweep of Delhi's historical highlights, the best two choices are probably the Chandi Chowk and Lodi Garden walks. The first takes in a heap of Delhi's best sights from markets to Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's architectural extravaganza, the Jama Masjid. The second explores one of New Delhi's best gardens, Lodi Gardens, within which lies superb examples of Syed and Lodi tombs and mosques as well as other scattered structures.
