A monumental tirangaa flapping away vigorously greets visitors many kilometers away as they approach the heart of Delhi and the heart of Connaught Place, Central Park. Erected by Naveen Jindal’s Flag Foundation of India, this tri colour is the tallest (207 feet) and the largest (60 feet in width, 90 feet in length and weighing 37 kilograms) in the country and instills a sense of pride and patriotic fervor in the hearts of any onlooker.
The Central Park of Connaught Place has become a favourite of sorts for all those who want to take a break from their shopping spree, or enjoy the greens as they take a lunch break, or the many who are looking for some cultural action in the amphitheatre that is built here. You are likely to run into activists, theatre enthusiasts, artists, nature lovers and of course tourists at this little oasis. Ever since the concrete centre of CP was replaced with well sculpted greens (all the while keeping the fountain network intact), the place has become more popular among Delhiwallahs than ever before. With restricted entry points, this is no longer plagued with thoroughfare and miscreants are kept away by patrolling police staff. Pick a book from Galgotia’s and snack from Wenger’s and head straight to Central Park if the weather Gods are looking happy.
