The celebrations are an elaborate affair in Khan Nagar area of Cuttack. Organised by Khan Nagar-Khapuria Shilpanchal Puja Committee, Durga Puja in this part of the Silver City is replete with a beautiful idol of the Goddess, a 30-ft-high silver tableau adorning the pandal, a majestic welcome arch and beautiful light decorations. This year, 65-ft-high welcome arch designed on the theme of Uri attacks has been set up by the organisers which include a Saheed Manch where photographs of the 18 Uri martrys are being showcased for people to pay their respects. Adding to the festive sparkle is the silver backdrop that was set up by the organisers in 2011 using 3.5 quintals of pure silver. The Goddess wears gold and silver jewellery that have been prepared by 10 of the best filigree artists of Cuttack. The backdrop incorporates designs of floating swans and ‘kadamba’ flowers.
