Chicago all set to use social media to keep an eye on visitors breaking quarantine rules

Almost every country across the globe is fighting the deadly pandemic that has claimed lakhs of innocent lives till date. The governments everywhere are forced to take desperate measures to ensure the safety of their people and put a check on the spread of the virus. Chicago too has decided to use social media accounts of visitors to keep an eye of them to help enforce the travel restrictions.

Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said, "One of the easiest ways to sort of get enough proof that there was the potential of a violated quarantine order without me having to send out an inspector or do any sort of more aggressive follow up to collect that is to look at social media."
The commissioner further added that where they have a concern, the easiest way to identify people who are breaking the travel order is through their social media status. In July, the Chicago government had implemented a travel restriction on several states throughout the country. The government made 14 days quarantine upon arrival a mandatory rule for anyone arriving from states having an infection rate higher than 15 per every 100,000 people over a 7-day period.

The list of states include Arizona, Florida, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Georgia, Wisconsin, Iowa, Puerto Rico, Kansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Alabama, Nebraska, Utah, Nevada, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana and North Dakota. Among these, Chicago is now planning to drop Iowa, Kansas, and Utah from the list as the infection rate has decreased at these places.
If anyone is found breaking the quarantine, he/she can be fined from $100 to $500 per day, going up to $7000. Such people can be identified from their social media, and will be issued a fine accordingly.

The city of Chicago till date has recorded 62437 Coronavirus positive cases and 2798 deaths.
