Open nightly starting around 6:00 pm, Chiang Mai’s Night Bazaar is the place to go to do some major souvenir shopping. The complex is massive and made up of several different market areas, including street stalls, brick and mortar permanent shops, food halls and more. Here you’ll find all the Chang t-shirts, elephant figurines and tribal textiles you could ever dream of plus bootlegged DVDs, tailor shops and even a few big-chain eateries including McDonald’s, Starbucks and Haagen Dazs. While you can find goods from around Thailand, you’ll mainly see products made close to Chiang Mai with an emphasis on hill tribe goods such as embroidered pillowcases and silver jewelry.
You won’t see many Thais shopping here, the area is almost completely geared toward tourists, but you will be able to find just about anything you’re looking for including plenty of gifts to take back home. Take your time to shop around, quality—and prices—can vary from stall to stall. End your evening shopping with a cold beer at one of the restaurants within the Kalare Market square or catch the nightly lady boy show at the back of Ansuarn Market.
