The Chiang Mai branch of the popular Bangkok restaurant is situated in a gorgeous traditional wooden Thai house along the Mae Ping River just north of Fahaam Temple. The food served at MahaNaga features traditional Thai fare with unexpected contemporary changes to create some unique fusion dishes such as yellow curry with lamb chop. That said, flavors are or often subtle instead of strong with the spice level turned down – while it’s good for chili-intolerant foreigners, some Thais may be a little disappointed with the flavor factor.

While the food is good, the atmosphere is even—betterperfect for a date or romantic dinner. Two riverfront terraces, that have been immaculately decorated in exotic Thai décor, feature panoramic river views. Guests can also enjoy sipping a cocktail before their meal while relaxing on the second-floor open air terrace balcony overlooking the water. In total, the charming restaurant can seat up to 100 people and has been used for hosting weddings and other special occasions and is an excellent place to take out of town guests who want a unique experience and warm introduction to wonderful world of Thai cuisine.
