Meandering roads cutting through picturesque thick pine and oak forest and small villages will take you to this beautiful little place nestled in lower Himalayan region in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is 21 km away from the main town of Nainital. If you are looking for a quiet holiday away from touristy crowd, rather than staying in Nainital, head to Sattal. Sattal is a collection of seven fresh water lakes, situated at an altitude of 1370 m in Mehragaon Valley. It is home to many Himalayan birds and is considered to be a paradise for the migratory birds. There are a few camps and resorts in the area that organise outdoor activities like birding, trekking, camping, rock climbing, rappelling etc. Kathgodam is the nearest railway station, from where it’s a beautiful drive of 26 km. Sattal can be visited anytime of the year. It is pleasantly cool during summers, lush green and fresh in monsoons and very cold in winters. If you wish to visit in winters come prepared for sub-zero temperatures.
