Centre Pompidou, Paris’ one of the most visited attractions is shutting down for 5 years

For those who don’t know, Centre Pompidou in Paris is the third most visited attraction in the French city. After attracting people from across the globe with its art and architecture, the attraction is shutting down for five years! Reason being is the complete renovation of the Centre Pompidou. The attraction will remain shut from 2025 to 2030.

The center is home to beautiful galleries, a library and a restaurant. The place will undergo repairs and construction for five years. The news was shared by Rima Abdul Malak, the minister of culture in France earlier this month. Talking about the cost, she said that the project cost is estimated at 260 million euros ($282 million).
Earlier, the shut down of the building was expected in September 2023. However, the date was postponed until after the Summer Olympics which is supposed to take place in Paris in 2024.

Named after former French President Georges Pompidou, Pompidou is set right in the heart of Paris. The cultural attraction draws millions of heritage lovers from all over the world every year. Besides, the place is also noted for offering the best views of Paris city. The building was designed by the famous architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers.
Meanwhile, visitors will be allowed to access Pompidou’s 400,000 books present in its public library. Later, these books will be shifted to Le Lumière, a temporary site in Paris’s Bercy district. On the other hand, the artworks will be exhibited across Paris.

The renovation work aims to reestablish the “original utopia” of the Centre Pompidou. Another prime highlight of the refurbished building will be a brand new 1500 sq m terrace offering stunning views of the city. Also, it will help in diminishing the center’s energy bill by a huge 60%.
