In most Moroccan cities, shopping is limited to traditional handicrafts and Moroccan carpets. Not so in Casablanca. Here you can buy everything from designer shoes and bags to western-style outfits. There are a number of malls that cater to tourists and residents. Morocco Mall is one of the largest malls in Africa—it is home to dozens of shops and restaurants. Anfa Place Mall is really popular too. If a mall is not your thing, head to the Maarif neighbourhood—here a number of popular European brands have showrooms and independent boutiques line the alleyways.
However, if you’re on the hunt for cheap designer knockoffs, Derb Ghalef neighbourhood is the answer. The labyrinthine souk here is full of watches, sunglasses and clothes available at pocket-friendly prices. But Casablanca doesn’t disappoint on the traditional front either. If you’re on the lookout for ethnic Moroccan handicrafts or locally-produced carpets, the old Medina has a number of colourful stalls that will leave you smitten. Don’t forget to have a glass of orange juice at the stalls lining the Medina.
