One of the cheapest countries in South East Asia, Cambodia makes your dollars stretch a bit more, if you opt for backpacking around the country. From visiting the famous temples in Siem Reap to trekking in the countryside, exploring laidback beaches of Koh Rong to the sleepy river town of Kampot, backpacking around Cambodia can easily take up a month. The cluster of temples in a small area makes backpacking easier. Hopping from one temple to the other in a private tuk-tuk would cost almost $30, whereas riding pillion on a moto would cost $1. Backpacking also gives an opportunity to visit lesser known, yet amazing temples and shrines, which do not feature on many travellers’ itinerary. The street food can provide staple meals – Bai sach chrouk (pork served with rice), and Nom banh chok ( Khmer Noodles) make cheaper, safer, and nutritious options. The cocktails at $1 on Pub Street take care of the evening excitement, and entertainment for backpackers. If you haven’t backpacked ever, then start with Cambodia. You will get to learn the art of backpacking from the seasoned world travellers!
