The city's first gay tango

Word to the wise: You can also brush up your gay tango skills with lessons on Sunday evening at the San Telmo hotel El Lugar Gay from 7pm.

Sandwiched between office blocks in downtown BA, La Marshall is easy to miss. But up the stairs, through the blue curtains and onto the dance floor, this milonga is the first – and for a long time only – of its kind. While it’s billed as gay tango, gender is irrelevant.

In the lesson before the milonga, you will be encouraged to change partners, taking turns at both leading and following with men and women at random. The crowd is mixed ages, but everyone comes for the relaxed friendly attitude. However, despite breaking with gender conventions, they're still serious about their tango, and the standard is very high.
