The ambitious project to turn this historic structure into a luxury heritage hotel had already received a green signal from the state tourism department. As per the latest news reports, the hotel will be built on a public-private-partnership (PPP) mode and the bidding procedure will possibly start within a month for an estimated cost of INR 165 crore.
The Sultan Palace, built in 1922, is an inspiring example of Islamic architecture with minarets, high-domed towers, and myriad arches. It used to be home of Sir Sultan Ahmad, the first Vice-Chancellor of Patna University. Apart from this palace, Patna is also set to get two more posh hospitality addresses to boast of, as Hotel Patliputra Ashok will be refurbished into a five-star property, whereas the Bankipore Bus Stand will be turned into another five-star hotel.
While the Sultan Palace was handed over to the BSRTC recently, Hotel Patliputra Ashok was handed over to the state government by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Referring to these projects, BSTDC officials stated that the bidding process for developing all the three hotels in PPP mode will start within a month and that they will likely be ready in four years’ time.
