While Naukuchitalal has colourful boats on its lake, Bhimtal, a short drive away, is known for its shikaras. Possessing an old world charm, this town is beautiful and its pedestrian roads are the quite the highlight. The glistening Bhimtal Lake is a gorgeous one and the hilly backdrop makes it all the more enchanting. The lake is well known for the gorgeous white ducks, which swim around the shikaras. At the centre of the lake is an aquarium, which has a wonderful exhibition of various species of fishes. Bhimtal has more to it than just the lake. The adjoining 17th century Bhimeshwar Temple and dam offer nice views of the shimmering waters. The very popular butterfly and moth museum at Bhimtal is a must visit and a great way to explore the world of colourful butterflies from across the globe. Peter Smetacek, a very amiable butterfly enthusiast, runs this museum and leaves everyone awed with his knowledge and displays. A workshop with him, which he conducts often, gives you complete knowledge of the colourful world of butterflies. Sayad Baba ki Mazar is a place of religious importance where people from all religions come to pay their homage.
