Designed by Renzo Piano, a celebrated Italian architect, the Zentrum Paul Klee is a museum dedicated to the life and times of the Swiss-German legend Paul Klee. Klee was one of the most important artists of the 20th century and this address pays homage to his achievements. Inaugurated in 2005, the museum has a staggering collection of 4000 paintings by the man himself and plays host to regular art exhibitions. You will be surprised to know that these 4000 artworks constitute only 40 percent of Klee’s creations, such was his talent. The displays keep changing, depending on the themes and a maximum of 150 works are shown at a time.
Apart from the awe-inspiring works of art, the museum building is a sight in itself. The all-steel structure is mounted on a green island and contains an exhibition hall, an event hall, a music room, several seminar rooms and a separate museum for children. Known as the ‘Kindermuseum Creaviva’, the children’s museum is a platform that encourages creative expression and the free flow of ideas. The Zentrum offers private tours and audio guides and there is a bookshop for those who want to learn more about Paul Klee.
