Enjoy an evening meal on Ghost Street
- ADDRESS:Dongzhimen Inner Street, Dongcheng district
A non-stop foodie fiesta at this 24-hour restaurant hub
Word to the wise: Getting a taxi back home from here will be a frustrating endeavour. A safer bet is to walk down to one of the streets on either end.
Near the centre of Beijing there is a street that never sleeps. Dongzhimen Nei, also known as Ghost Street, is filled with over 200 restaurants that are open - and calling you in to eat - 24 hours a day.
A meal on Ghost Street is beyond any normal dining experience in the city: the street is a tribute to China's food culture and offers a huge variety of dishes and prices from every corner of China. Glass fronted façades let you see into many of the restaurants so choosing shouldn't be a problem, but bear in mind that 胡大 serves the most incredible pots of spicy crayfish.
Admittedly, the area isn't known for its mind-blowing cuisine and classy clientèle - many people venture here after a night on the town - but it's always lively, and with so many places to eat at, you can skip booking and be spontaneous.
