Battling overtourism: You might no longer get to see tourist buses in Paris city centre

To keep a check on tourists’ outpour, Paris authorities are planning to ban tourist buses from the very heart of the city. The step is also taken to increase other interesting activities in the city such as cycling tours and heritage walks.
Being a renowned tourist destination, Paris remains crowded with travellers and tourists all year. There are more than a dozen hop-on-hop-off double-decker buses in Paris for sightseeing purposes. These buses take them to all the prominent monuments in the city. But the situation is getting worse with each passing day.

Though Emmanuel Gregoire, Paris’s Deputy Mayor believes that the situation is not as bad as in Venice or Barcelona. However, Parisians are quite concerned with the flooding of tourist buses in the city centre. He further said that Paris is done with tourist buses and that these are no longer welcome in the city.
The mayor also said that Paris is waiting for new legislation that will hopefully reduce the bus traffic from the city. Also, parking spots will be made for these buses so that they can stay away from the city centre.

According to the new mobility law in France, local will have more powers so that they can regulate local traffic. Also, tourists will be provided with environment-friendly transport options like bicycles and electric scooters (on rent).

Paris made a record last year as nearly 50 million tourist arrivals in Paris and the Ile-de-France region was noted. The number was 48 million in the year 2017.
