Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK)

TRAVEL TIPS, BANGKOK Updated : May 23, 2016, 12.20 PM IST

Suvarnabhumi Airport
The gateway to central Thailand

Noteworthy for: Built in 2006, this ultra-modern hub is already the sixth busiest in Asia, servicing the vast majority of international arrivals into Thailand.

Suvarnabhumi—located 30 km from the city centre—handles most of Bangkok's international flights, so there's a decent selection of transport options available for getting you to and from the airport. A metered taxi to central Bangkok will set you back THB 350-450 and takes 45-90 minutes. Remember that in addition to the metered fare, passengers are responsible for paying a THB 50 airport surcharge plus expressway tolls of around THB 70. The outward journey from the city to the airport is significantly cheaper.

Cheaper still—and much faster—is the Airport Rail Link, which operates two lines into central Bangkok every 20-30 minutes from 6am—12midnight. The Express Line directly to or from Makkasan (City Terminal) takes 15 minutes and costs THB 90. The slower seven-stop City Line towards Phaya Thai takes just over 30 minutes and costs between THB 15-45.
