A beautifully landscaped shopping mecca

Word to the wise: Since it's not an enclosed mall, walking from store to store can be brutal in summer - dress accordingly.

With winding walkways, sculpture, an outdoor stage, and fountains, The Domain is trying very hard to be a quaint village, but it's really a massive upscale shopping center, anchored by Neiman Marcus and Macy's.

It does have a few surprises, however, such as Atelier 1105, which sells stunning designer jewelry, Caron perfume and French antiques. The Domain is also home to Austin's only Burberry store; the London-based company that invented gabardine offers everything from designer trench coats to fashionable swimwear.

After a morning of shopping, wind down at The Steeping Room, a quaint cafe with premium loose-leaf teas, organic salads, and excellent lunch options ranging from lentil walnut tea sandwiches to croque monsieur on ciabatta bread.
