Khakhnal can be accessed on foot from Naggar road and lies hardly a km ahead of Sajla village. It is a very small village and one crosses it on the way to the Kartikeya Temple that is prettily located in the middle of a green meadow. The temple is very old and is dedicated to Swami Kartikeya (son of Lord Shiva). There is a lovely deodar and pine forest as the meadow continues behind the temple. On the other side, there are commanding views of the snow-clad mountains of Solang Valley & Rohtang Pass.
There are fascinating wooden carvings inside that are worth noticing. Nearby, in the open meadow there is a newly constructed temple dedicated to a devi. It makes for a pretty scenic photograph with the snow clad Himalayas in the background.
There are two very small shikhara style stone temples outside the main temple. One of them is almost in the hollow of a tree! A village fair is held here in the month of March.
