History lovers will be delighted to know that there are a total of nine forts in the region around Alwar-Sarisk. The surrounding landscape seems more like a hide and seek spot, with small hills dotting the Aravallis and majestic forts on top of them. Sadly, most of the forts are in ruins and may not even be accessible by road.

What is guaranteed though are the fine views once you are near the forts. Some private companies are trying to make the Rajputana grandeur come alive by converting these forts into heritage hotels. Exploring these forgotten delights is recommended in the company of a knowledgeable local guide.

On road to Bhangarh is Ajabgarh, built by Maharaja Madho Singh’s grandson as a new settlement for the people of Bhangarh. The fort is well-preserved, but for some strange reason both the fort and the city are abandoned! Apparently, both Bhangarh and Ajabgarh were the strongholds of tantrik magicians and have been deserted for a long time. The top of Ajabgarh Fort will get you a wonderful panoramic view. Ajabgarh village, like Bhangarh, also feels spooky due to sparse population.

Thanagazi Fort is very close to Sariska Tiger Reserve Gate, and there are efforts to make it functional again.
