Exiting Harajuku metro station, the first street you encounter is Takeshita-dori, Harajuku’s premiere shopping scene. Harajuku is not only the most stylish area of Tokyo but also famous around the world for its extravagant and colorful clothing designs. Fashion designers from around the world come here for inspiration and many popular Japanese brands have gotten their start here. Ever heard of the Harajuku Girls?
Both sides of the street of Takeshita-dori are packed full of boutique clothing shops, selling unique apparel and accessories. Don’t be surprised by the “No Fucking Photos” signs—the place is not very photographer-friendly. However, even if you are not in the mood for new clothing, the district is an experience nonetheless.
Nearby: Omotesando, another famous, and more upscale, shopping area as well as Shibuya district, the vibrant heart of Shibuya ward.
