Kalimpong is home to some mesmerising old and new monasteries that are spread across the place. These little hill station, though small in area, has several gompas that are visited by people in large number, hence making it one of the prime things to do in Kalimpong. Tharpa Choling Monastery and Zang Dhok Palri Phodang (Durpin Dara) are the major ones here that have been attracting tourists from all across. The Tharpa Choling Monastery was established in 1912 by Domo Geshe Rinpoche and is considered one of the oldest Gelugpa monasteries in India.
