Located in Alabama, the island is about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive away from New Orleans. The Dauphin Island is widely known as the state with a variety of bird species, and so can be an ideal spot for nature lovers, and bird watchers. The island has several bird sanctuaries, with the main one being the Audubon Bird Sanctuary that has 164-acre land. Go to Shell Mound Park for a walk amidst nature, it is truly a spectacle to behold, as the park is home to a large number of bird species, which includes migratory birds as well. A historic site of the Dauphin Island is the Fort Gaines, best known for the Battle of Mobile Bay during the American Civil War. Of course the main thing to do here is to lay back, relax, and eat fresh seafood.
