On the 6th of August 1945, the city of Hiroshima awoke to what would possibly be the worst form of destruction mankind has ever witnessed. An atomic bomb by the name of ‘Little Boy’ was dropped over the city by the United States in order to force Japan to surrender during the Second World War. At 8:16 am, the inhabitants heard a deafening noise that was followed by a blinding flash of red, orange and yellow. It was like the sun had exploded. And then suddenly, everything was falling down. Everything crumbled to dust.

Approximately 80,000 people died immediately after the explosion whereas more than 30,000 were critically injured. The after-effect of the bombing lived on for years and some 60,000 people lost their lives owing to the same. However, with every passing day, the people of Hiroshima exhibited immense strength and spirit to move on. Owing to their resilience, the city rose from its own ashes, just like a phoenix to be the modern giant that it is today. However, there are certain embodiments of this tragedy that continue to haunt both the locals and visitors. They stand like dusty, broken mirrors reflecting the terrible past and the fact that extreme power brings nothing but doom.
