On the north east coast of Nusa Penida (the largest of the three islands near Bali), Buyuk is supposed to be a fun dive, ranging between 5 to 30 m. It is located opposite the village that has the same name and it can be reached via a 30 minute boat ride from Nusa Lembongan. It is a sloping reef covered in huge barrel sponges, long whip corals, schooling fish, unicorns, snappers, moray and ribbon eels and more. Other species that can be seen include the eagle rays, scorpion fish, nudibranch and mantis shrimp. Occasionally, whitetip reef sharks, turtles and mola mola can also be sighted. The coral reef is composed of both hard and soft corals, beautifully coloured. It is a good dive even for beginners divers as the current is generally good, whatever the tide.
