This is one place for which you will definitely need a local’s help to find it. The Crystal Cave of Kupang is a cool, hidden oasis, away from the city heat. In order to embark on this offbeat adventure, you will need to rent a motorcycle or vehicle and obtain basic directions from locals in Kupang. Alternatively, budget travelers can take a bemo to Bolok and walk the last couple of kilometres. Once you get closer to the cave, there will be locals around to point you in the right direction.
As you descend down into Crystal Cave, expect it to be dark, slippery and cold, so be careful. The entrance to the cave is overhead so the interior only lights up when the Sun is high in the sky. As such, it is best to arrive in the morning, hang around until the noon sun overhead illuminates everything, and then make your way back to town as the afternoon kicks off.
When the cave interior lights up, you will understand where the name comes from. The cool blue water is crystal clear and absolutely breathtaking.
