The city immortalised by William Shakespeare, Verona has been the setting for three of the Bard’s plays – Romeo and Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Taming of the Shrew. This charming city which has been awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO, with the alluring Adige River flowing through it, is the gem of North Italy. Verona is famed for its Roman influences, and as well as for being the destination for lovers; after all, it is the city of star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Well, more on that later, but safe to say love is in the air here in Verona. Verona, at its core is a city of art, dotted by vestiges from the past – ancient history, Roman ruins, medieval remains and Venetian and Austrian. As you walk by the antique palaces, squares, bridges, and wonderful churches, you soak in a little bit of all this. It is hard to miss the architectural and artistic masterpieces that are lined up along its streets. It is rather easy to lose your heart to this delightful city, so you might as well be prepared for love at first sight. These are the places that must not be missed in charismatic Verona.
