Ever heard of a beach with pink sand? Take your snorkel gear and swimsuit, and head to this pretty stretch of sand in Komodo island. There is more to the island than just Komodo dragons. The pristine beach is layered in shades of pink and white and my guide said that there are only seven such beaches in the world. The beach is locally named Pantai Merah. The colour is emitted by a microscopic marine organism called foraminifera that gives out a red pigment on the coral reef. While the sand has pieces of coral merged in them, the water below turns out to be more colourful with a variety of coral, fish and marine life.
