It’s customary to begin your trip to Mount Bromo at 3 am to see the sun rise from Mount Penanjakan. If you are lucky, you could be rewarded with a brilliant view of the sun rising behind Mount Bromo, the active volcano named after Lord Brahma. However, if the sun is playing truant and has been taken over by the mist, then the drive to the foot of the mountain makes up for it. A temple stood in the sea of sand as we drove through the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. And you can choose to either ride a horse to the foot of the mountain or wade through the sand. The best part of the experience is, however, climbing 200 steps to reach the top of the crater. A huge gaping hole in the earth greets you as you peer down to see through the wisp of sulphur floating around. If you have ever wanted to scale a volcanic peak and look at a crater, then this is one experience you must not miss.
