When the construction got completed in 1930, Riga Central Market was one of the largest and modern marketplaces in the entire European continent. During WWI, the pavilions were actually used as zeppelin hangers, which now serve as meat, produce, fish and dairy markets. Visitors can buy Latvian-grown food and home-made products as well as exotic fruits and spices. Although it isn’t as easy to haggle with stall owners as it once was, you are encouraged to try your luck. Besides, these pavilions are not the only highlights of this unique market, also present are old warehouses that have been converted into art and entertainment quarter.
