Another prominent attraction in Mathura is Kans Quila, which is named after the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. The fort dates back to the time of Mahabharata and was later restored in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh of Amber. Situated on the northern banks of the Yamuna River, the fort is an attractive amalgam of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. It is believed that Kans Quila played the saviour for the people of Mathura when it was hit by deadly floods in the Yamuna. Now in ruins, Kans Quila is also known by the names of Old Fort or Purana Quila of Mathura. Located close to the fort are some famous ghats, including Vasudev Ghat and Brahma Ghat. So do not miss out on exploring this years-old fort when in Mathura.
