There’s a certain way of drinking wine in Segovia—from a porron. But this is increasingly found more outside the town, in the rural countryside. A transparent and unique glass decanter, porron is a cross between a watering can and a wine bottle and can hold up to 4 litres of wine. The wine, usually red, is directly poured into the mouth from the spout but since there is no contact, a table full of people can share from the same vessel but it is also a test of skill not to let it drip down on the shirt or on the table. Moreover, there’s no measure of how much is being drunk by each person!
