Situated at an altitude of around 4275 m, Komic is said to be the highest village in the world with a motorable road. It’s a beautiful drive of around 18 km from Kaza to Komic. Though the drive is a bit tough you will be amazed by the beauty of the Himalayas—green pastures and snow-covered peaks appear to be just a few steps away with the milky white clouds hanging above as a crown. You might also get to spot woolly hare, gazelle or ibex on the way. The first thing that gets noticed on entering the village is its monastery painted in beautiful bright colours. The gompa is said to be more than 500 years old and has a residential complex for the lamas. Spend some time here and enjoy a cup of tea with these lamas and you will get to know a lot about the area and the life of the lamas up there in the mountains.
