Heavy wooden doors, unpretentious high ceilings, old paintings adorning the walls and pocket-friendly food are highlights of Indian Coffee House. The cafe is one of the oldest in the city, having been founded before the independence. The long wooden windows bear testimony to the colonial architecture, and the ambience of the coffee house is bound to remind you of the bygone era. While the food here is normal, the ambience and architecture are what make it a must visit. At this historical coffee house, do sample fish fry, the royal fish kabiraji and chicken cutlet. The place mostly attracts people for its socialist views more than it does for its food and beverages. You can see aspiring writers, poets, filmmakers and theatre personalities flocking this cafe and discussing things over coffee and samosa. It was once frequented by the likes of Amartya Sen, Aparna Sen, Manna Dey and Satyajit Ray, among others.
