Imagine ascending a mountain with the wind gently blowing your hair, the landscape beneath you changing with every passing second; the dull concrete making way for pristine blue waters which then turn into verdant pastures. You pass cosy chalets, well-fed cows and yellow daisies and only when you’ve begun to take in the beauty, dazzling snow takes their place. You feel like you’ve suddenly grown a pair of wings; it’s like you’re flying. Except that you are not. You actually happen to be inside a cable car with an upper deck sans a roof. And it is this wondrous marvel that gets you to Mount Stanserhorn.
With yet another revolving restaurant and an elaborate park catering to the old and the young alike, Stanserhorn offers fantastic views of Lake Lucerne at 1900 m. You have to take a funicular from the town of Stans to Kalti followed by which you get on the fascinating CabriO cable car to the peak. It is interesting to note that this is the world’s first open-air, double-decker cable car. Stans is located on the Lucerne-Engelberg railway line and if in case you are vacationing in Lucerne, missing on Stanserhorn is a very bad idea. Check their official website for additional information.
