Walking around Melbourne’s CBD, it is not unusual to stumble upon small, quirky and charming places. Brother Baba Budan is one such. All the more because of the strange reference to India’s Chickmagalur district, one of the coffee growing areas of the country. Baba Budan, a Sufi Saint credited with introducing coffee to Chickmagalur and indeed, the rest of the region, by smuggling a few seeds from Yemen while returning from a Haj pilgrimage. The area is named after him. Known for its coffees from various countries, including India (Chickmagalur), the safe has an unusual ambience and serves up a range of hot, cold and filter coffees.
