Sprawling across an area of 100 acres, Akshardham Temple is the brainchild of Pramukh Swami Maharaj who heads the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. About 3000 volunteers and 7000 architects helped in the construction of this magnificent edifice, which is the World’s Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple. The architecture of the temple draws inspiration from Badrinath Temple, Konark Temple and Somanth Temple. For instance, similar to Konark, the carvings outside the temple structure narrate the entire life history of Swami Narayan. The relief work is like no other with such exquisite detailing.
This white-marble-pink-sandstone monument attracts around 10000 visitors every day. The temple premises also features a lotus garden, a small pond called Narayan Sarovar, a food court, an AARSH centre, a musical fountain and a souvenir shop. While you are here, do not miss out on the cultural boat ride, Sanskriti Darshan (timings 10:00 am - 8:00 pm, duration - 15 minutes). There is also a musical fountain sound and light show which is quite a delight to watch for persons of all ages.
Note: Electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple premises.
