This city in the northern part of the country definitely needs to feature on your itinerary. Husavik is better known as Iceland’s whale-watching capital. There is an almost hundred percent chance of spotting these gentle giants if you opt for a whale-watching tour in Husavik. Make sure you spend some time at The Whale Museum—it aims to educate tourists about the habitat of whales and spread awareness about these marine mammals. There is a lot more to this pretty fishing town than whale-watching tours. Husavik’s Church, made entirely from Norwegian wood, attracts a lot of tourists. It was built in 1907 and looks nothing like other churches in Iceland. Its bright red-and-white façade is reminiscent of Alpine churches that can be found in Switzerland and Austria. Husavik is also home to two museums. Culture House dwells on Icelandic folklore while Exploration Museum celebrates the history of human exploration including Viking voyages and Arctic expeditions.
