Best cafes in Berlin
Whether you are rushing in and out of a meal or are simply not in a mood to wait out for a multi-course meal at a fine dining restaurant, dig into a pastry or some local breads instead. Options include Berlin’s grand old cafe, Cafe Einstein Stammhaus, Barcomi’s for some of the best New York cheesecake and coffee and Alpenstueckle, a cafe that could pass off as a farmhouse kitchen but instead dishes out some great strudel and rye bread. For the mornings, one could get a taste of genuine Antipodean breakfast at Antipodes, set up by Australian couple Jane and Paul on Fehrbelliner Strasse 5. For a Sunday brunch, visit the Bar Gagarin, especially if you have a thing for space travel and Russian breakfast and of course, Vodka. If you plan to visit the Kollwitz museum, you could refuel at the Cafe Wintergarten im Literaturehaus that happens to be the former home of German explorer, Richard Hildebrandt.
