From behind the city center, rises an arch across the Yarra River connecting the Victoria Arts Center and the Southgate business and entertainment precinct – this is the Southgate pedestrian bridge. Besides serving as a connector for thousands of locals and tourists between the two ends of the River, the bridge affords stunning views of the city skyline, and prominent iconic landmarks such as the 88 floor Eureka sky deck, Rialto towers, Flinders Street Station and Southgate which are littered all along the stretch of the Yarra River.

Try to catch these views at night when they become especially stunning with the neon illuminated building windows twinkling beyond the inky Yarra and the pitch black skyline.

But what makes this bridge particularly interesting is the lovely sight of the gold-ochre love locks dangling from the steel railings of the footboard. If you are the romantic kind, you can even clip one of your own padlocks and throw the keys in the river!

Browse through the love locks or simply take a deep breath down to your lungs - soak in the panorama of Melbourne; if you can catch a sunset or a sunrise here, it would be a huge bonus, for free.
