A historic house celebrating Michelangelo’s life and work
An unparalleled insight into the life, work and genius of Florence’s most renowned son, this magnificent museum to Michelangelo is housed in the rather unassuming Casa Buonarroti - a property bought by the artist in 1508 but then occupied by his nephew’s family until 1858.
The museum is home to two of the artist’s earliest sculptures - ‘Madonna of the Steps’ and ‘Battle of the Centaurs’ - which were completed when he was just 15 years old, as well as a number of paintings and sketches by the Old Master. There’s also a library of over 10,000 volumes, including the family’s archive and many of Michelangelo's own letters.
