One of the world's great vintage shops
There are petticoats hanging in great ruffles from the ceiling, rows of silk gowns with charmingly tattered lace trims and bundles of cashmere of every colour. Mannequins are adorned in everything from antique militaria to kooky forties threads, though the best is the swimmer diving from the ceiling.
Armstrongs opened back in 1840, and has been selling second-hand, vintage and antique clothing - some older than the shop - ever since. Whether you’re after a 19th century velvet smoking jacket, a 1920s ra ra dress or a batwing 80s sweater you’ll find it all, and more, here.
