A labour of bakery love

Word to the wise: Best seat in the house is certainly the cushioned window seat; it is literally, the one-time window display space, perfect for curling up with tea and cake and watching Edinburgh life pass by.

The crockery looks like it came straight from your nan's shelves, the cakes are kept in a grand wooden bureau and there's a table made out of a beat-up piano to sup upon. Back to the cakes though, which are inevitably the stars of the show: indulgent creamy carrot cake, decadent dark chocolate ganache, bulging buttery scones - it's sweet-tooth porn.

Ramshackle and sweet, Lovecrumbs has a heartwarming feel to it, probably because it is the daydream-turned-reality of two school best friends Hollie and Rachel, who run it as much on whim and fancy as fine baking and good business.
