A worthy rival to La Boqueria
This historical market was completely renovated in 2005 by star Catalan architects Enric Miralles – of Scottish Parliament fame – and Benedetta Tagliabue. There are sections for fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as fish and meat, including a couple of stalls dedicated to the renowned Jamon Iberico.
But while the inside of the market may feel traditional, its roof is anything but. The wave-like structure channels Gaudi’s organic forms, and from the street you can see its rippling edge. It's even more stunning from above, covered in splashes of vibrant colour reflecting the market’s wares.
