Spicy Mex-Mex and tattooed hipsters
If the Coke-saturated carnitas at Curra's isn't strange enough for you, sample the restaurant's version of huevos motulenos - made with eggs, chipotle sauce and refried black beans, and framed by the curve of a vertically sliced half-banana - for a spicy-sweet adventure. A more traditional but equally tasty option is the cochinita pibil: a pork leg marinated in spices and cooked slowly inside a banana leaf.
These quirky dishes, plus strong margaritas, attract generously tattooed artsy types and their brooding friends. The obnoxiously bright decor stands in stark contrast to the grumpy-looking clientele, balancing yin and yang, Austin-style.
