Spain’s oldest and grandest theatre
Dominating Plaza de Santa Ana, Teatro Español is Spain's oldest theatre. This grand theatre dates back to 1745 and, as proof of its storied history, the names of Spain’s most important and celebrated playwrights are inscribed on the exterior walls.
These days, the theatre presents classics by Spanish and international dramatists, and the diversity of genres comprises myriad forms of dramatic arts, from classic to contemporary, and drama to comedy. Before or after a performance, have a glass at rioja in the plaza at one of the many enjoyable tapas bars, cafes and restaurants.
